virtual fruit fly inquiry lab

  1. Title the top of your paper "Fruit Fly Genetics Inquiry Lab
  2. Click on the Fruit Fly website and enter as "Guest".
  3. Read "The Lab Bench: Your Task"
  4. Follow instructions to order your flies. You may choose flises with whatever characteristics you desire to student. Remember your goal is to figure out the inheritance pattern of the traits you pick.
  5. Click on the "Report" tab at the top of the page
  6. Complete a Lab Report with the IB format. Follow the format precisely. Review the Internal Assessment Powerpoint as a reference.
  7. Since you will be designing your own experiment, complete all three sections: Design, Data Collection and Processing, and Conclusion and Evaluation.
  8. Remember to create your own data tables and analyze your data (Chi Squared)
  9. Be clear about what trait you are studying and describe your results clearly. I should NOT have to look at the lab in order to figure out what you are talking about.
  10. Have fun and figure out how fruit fly genetics work.
  11. If you have questions, please ask
  12. Check out the Linked Genes video clip before you begin
